The launch of the fantastically inspiring and imaginative Jessica Walsh’s new agency &Walsh sees the second sighting of the 3D liquid metal typography. This uniquely captivating style initially caught my eye in the branding for Issue Zero of Dazed Beauty “The Manifesto For the Future of Beauty”, curtsey of the equally fantastic Bunny Kinney. It was just so different from anything at the time that it stuck in my mind as a pretty bold move and as a child of the 80’s I love how it feels equally futuristic and retro, serving The Abyss, Terminator 2 T1000 with a hint of virtual gaming synthesis and AR fantasy.
The Liquid Metal Works
What better representation for transformation or creation? Amorphous, solid and liquid could this mark the return of the script typeface? &Walsh have gone with the more sophisticated route sticking to an ampersand logoform with Dazed a more free form expression almost like spilt liquid.
The Designers Foundry have produced Goliagolia in a gothic deconstructed typeface which can be reproduced in pearlescent 3D metallic pastel. With the current resurgence of Modern Swiss it serves as a great contrast to clean and minimal. Watch this space to see which will be the next brand to adopt.
